Which Leduc Home Owners Benifet from Edmontons Annexation?

Residences in parts of Leduc County have officially become Edmontonians effective January 1st this year with the provincial approval to expand its boundaries. Services in the newly annexed area near Leduc, such as the clearing of snow and waste management. Both emergency services and utilities will be also be provided by the City of Edmonton, which has committed to maintaining the service levels provided by Leduc County.

After years of collaborative discussion, the Order in Council now supports the conditions outlined in the new agreement, including providing a 50 year property tax protection provision in the annexed areas. This is good news for some the Leduc hoome owners, meaning properties will be assessed and taxed at the lowest of either the City of Edmonton's or Leduc County's tax rate for the next 50 years, unless specific landowner initiated development occurs.

Edmonton has taken 8,267 hectares of land from Leduc County and a portion of 50 Street to the municipality of Beaumont which has recently been approved by the Alberta council. This area includes land west and east of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway and the snippet of Beaumont. The total area annexed is about 20 times the size of Vancouver’s Stanley Park. This brings our City of Edmonton’s boundaries up to the edge of our International Airport.
